Without any doubt, the flat front of the Deutsche Oper, icon of Berlin, can easily measure up with the older theaters. The constantly renewed programming, the presence of great singers and the cutting edge staging make the Deutsche Oper Berlin one of the biggest opera companies in Europe.

During the 2016-2017 season, approximately forty works are on display including six new productions. With performances of the Staatsballet Berlin and many concerts, the Deutsche Oper offers a wide selection of performances always at very high level. Often young singers make their debut here before embarking on international stages. But the big names are equally present to maintain the enthusiasm of music lovers worldwide.

Among the remarkable new productions we should name Les Huguenots. A grand opera in the French Meyerbeer style with an exceptional cast with the delicate and perfect Patrizia Ciofi and irreplaceable Juan Diego Flórez. Death in Venice by Britten is supported by a dazzling trio, tenor Richard Croft, Director Donald Runnicles and Graham Vick as stage director. Richard Jones, one of the directors of rare intelligence offers Boris Godunov, the masterpiece of Russian opera. Contemporary creation is not absent with an opera by Scartazzini offering the baritone Michael Nagy, the role of Eward II. Among the resumptions, the beautiful ballet opera Romeo and Juliet to the music of Berlioz in the choreography of Sasha Waltz is entrusted to Stéphane Denève. We find the young and beautiful mezzo Clementine Margaine in Carmen as well as the magnificent Roberto Alagna who is later to be seen in Elisir d’amore, one of his favorite roles. Another charismatic artist, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo embodies the vile Mephistofeles in Gounod’s Faust while Klaus Florian Vogt interprets Lohengrin and an already unforgettable Parsifal. Olga Peretyatko (in Konstanze), Anja Harteros (Tosca) and Patrizia Ciofi (Huguenots and Traviata) are lyrical artists the theaters fight for and who will perform in Berlin. The smart choice is to book early the dream cast in La Bohème. Sonya Yoncheva and Piotr Beczala (afterwards Joseph Calleja) will undoubtedly shed many tears. The new star Sonya Yoncheva will be back in Eugene Onegin, another great and beautiful role. Once again a superb season at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
