]]> The white smoke was eagerly awaited and it is finally Olivier Py who has been appointed Director of the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

A great theatre and opera director, actor, author, director of the Théâtre national de l’Odéon from 2007 to 2012 and of the Festival d’Avignon from 2013 to 2022, Olivier Py is well known and often appreciated by music lovers who always recognise the intelligence of his approach to libretti. His name will undoubtedly revive the lustre of the Théâtre du Châtelet, but coincidence of the calendar, his next creation will take place at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, which will host his production of Stravinsky’s The Nightingale and Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tiresias from 10 to 19 March 2023.

]]> The great baroque conductor Christophe Rousset, who is very much on top of his game at the head of his Talens Lyriques, is conducting a complete set of Schubert’s symphonies at the Théâtre du Châtelet in three concerts, on 27 January 2023 (Symphonies Nos. 2, 4 & 6), 29 January (Symphonies Nos. 1, 3 & 8) and 31 January (Symphonies Nos. 5 & 9). This All-Schubert’s symphonies concert is performed for the first time by the Talens Lyriques.

]]> The great British director Deborah Warner, after the superb success of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra Comique and Britten’s Billy Bud at the Teatro Real in Madrid, returns to the Théâtre du Châtelet, where she staged a perfect Beethoven’s Fidelio in 2002. From 19 to 29 January 2022, she will stage Messiah, Handel’s famous oratorio, with a beautiful cast (Anna Devin, Christine Rice, Allan Clayton and Christopher Purves) and the Orchestra and Chorus of the Opéra de Lyon conducted by Stefano Montanari.
