When you attend a show at the Royal Opera or the Royal Chapel of Versailles, there is a some miracle and certainly a feeling of magic in the air. In the world, few places are as full of history and, above all, few historical halls are still able to receive opera, theater or ballet productions.

In addition to concerts, the Château de Versailles offers productions of incredible quality. Baroque music is obvious here and many of the 17th and 18th century composers are played but not only those. It is necessary without delay to reserve its places for ballets, for example the extraordinary Romeo and Juliet of Angelin Preljocaj, Swan lake or the creation in world premiere, Marie-Antoinette danced by the company of Thierry Malandain.

There is also the impressive Berlioz series that should not be missed. The two greatest Berliozian leaders are at Versailles. John Eliot Gardiner conducts the Symphonie fantastique and François-Xavier Roth, another masterpiece, the Damnation of Faust. The richness of the programming at the Château de Versailles is reflected in the notoriety of the great artists and the great voices that perform there (Sandrine Piau, Anna Caterina Antonacci, Karine Deshayes, Magdalena Kozená, Cyrille Dubois, Marc Mauillon …). You have to book her tickets for the Julie Fuchs recital, who sings bel canto scores.

Another sensational artist, counter-tenor Franco Fagioli, offers a recital with Vinci airs that are obviously virtuose. Philippe Jaroussky is accompanied by Emöke Baráth to perform Handel airs and duets. With Jakub Józef Orlinski, another great voice that counts today is that of counteralto Lucile Richardot in three concerts. There are so many events not to be missed at the Château de Versailles!

A magnificent cycle of religious music is offered during the Holy Week with Charpentier directed by Sébastien Daucé or Bach by Jordi Savall. A great baton also in Bach, the very talented Raphael Pichon offers his interpretation of the Mass in Si and also directs the Vespers of Monteverdi and another concert at the source of the Venetian opera. Other wonderful conductors are like in residence in Versailles like Hervé Niquet, Vincent Dumestre or Christophe Rousset. These wonderful Baroque batons lead a broad repertoire with Couperin, Handel, Pergolesi and rediscoveries such as the Requiem of Marie Antoinette de Plantade or the awaited Divisione del Mondo by Giovanni Legrenzi, directed by Jetske Mijnssen. To propose so many operas in scenic version is a luxury of which it is necessary to know how to benefit by reserving the best places without delay.

Purcell’s King Arthur is a reprise of the fantastic production of Corinne and Gilles Benizio (aka Shirley and Dino) as this Beggar’s Opera by the duo William Christie / Robert Carsen. But great fans will discover the Devin du Village of a certain Jean-Jacques Rousseau or the Finta pazza Sacrati. The brilliant Leonardo García Alarcón is one of the major players in this project.

This season 2018-2019, he also directs Bach’s Mass in Si or a reprise of his success, Il Diluvio Universale de Falvetti. Like the musical pleasures it offers us, Versailles is a festival of every moment.

The Lyon Opera always displays a thoughtful, intelligent and incredibly relevant program. Few theaters build their seasons on a theme.

In 2018-2019, Life and destinies will be at the heart of the Festival, a must-see event in March. Three productions are then proposed and most interesting because for example, The Enchantress, Tchaikovsky’s operawill be played for the first time in France. Dido and Aeneas by Purcell and Il Ritorno by Ulisse in Patria by Monteverdi are two magnificent masterpieces that serve the purpose perfectly.

The 2018-2019 season is marked by discoveries and major opera titles. Nabucco by Verdi is offered in concert version but the distribution compensates all staging. The great baritone Leo Nucci faces a superb soprano that knowledgeable music lovers already know, Anna Pirozzi. Händel’s Rodelinda is one of the famous works of the composer, however rarely played. The production is entrusted to Claus Guth. It is also nice to be able to applaud a poorly known opera. Boito’s Mefistofele is nevertheless a masterpiece, a gigantic fresco with an inspired stage director like Alex Ollé.

Krzysztof Warlikowski, a strong personality of the opera scene, has been entrusted with the production of a very powerful work, From the House of the Dead by Janácek. Amongst the expected discoveries, Romeo und Julia, a German opera created in 1943 by Boris Blacher. Georges Benjamin offers the premiere to the Opéra national de Lyon of the French creation of his new opera, Lessons in Love and Violence. The beloved baritone Stéphane Degout and the talented director Katie Mitchell are part of the crew. Finally, the 2018-2019 season of the Opéra de Lyon ends with an operetta by Offenbach, a Blue-Beard ineludibly jolly because it is the director Laurent Pelly to whom we owe so much success who directs the scene.

We must also mention the superb Opera Ballet of Lyon which invites as usual, the finest choreographers like Trisha Brown, Merce Cunningham or Jirí Kylián. But the big event is the return of the Cinderella that Maguy Marin created here, 30 years ago. With the concerts and recitals of Véronique Gens, Felicity Lott and Krystian Zimerman, you have to book your tickets for the beautiful season of the Opéra de Lyon 2018-2019 without delay.

The Easter Festival of Aix-en-Provence is today one of the great musts of the international classical music scene. You must reserve your tickets as soon as possible to attend one of the 27 concerts proposed from 13 to 28 April 2019. With its ever-increasing success, the prestigious event now encompasses a two week stretch. Central point of the events, the Grand Théâtre de Provence hosts renowned artists of the 2019 season. The multiform acoustics of the hall lends itself perfectly to symphonic music, opera, recital but also to baroque music.

The 2019 programming is amazing, as usual! It must be said that the Artistic Director is a major asset of the festival since it is Renaud Capuçon, the violinist who no longer needs presentation. Only he can imagine receiving such an impressive number of artists as Rudolf Buchbinder, Nelson Freire, Ian Bostridge, Augustin Dumay but also the younger generation with Teodor Currentzis, Lahav Shani or the impressive Daniel Lozakovich. And these are just a few names taken from an incredible list of dream performers. The Festival manages to bring together all these wonderful artists, always offering excellence on all fronts.

The great work of Bach (this season 2019, the Passion according to St. Matthew) which is played on Good Friday (it is now a tradition), is entrusted this year to Michel Corboz. He succeeds Raphael Pichon who has experienced a phenomenal success here. By entrusting the event to this great master of Bach, Renaud Capuçon confirms the choice of this great and beautiful tradition. During the Easter Festival of Aix-en-Provence 2019, Baroque music is brought by Emmanuelle Haïm who illuminates Haendel with the exceptional voices of Sandrine Piau and Tim Mead. Among the many highlights of the Festival, we mention the recital of the brilliant pianist Arcadi Volodos or that of the young George Li, revelation of the Tchaikovsky Competition. You must quickly reserve your places for this recital, as for the complete piano concertos of Beethoven.

The Sächsische Staatskapelle in Dresden hosts Rudolf Buchbinder who directs the remarkable piano collective. Renaud Capuçon is not only the mastermind of the Festival but he is also at the center of some equally enticing concerts where he meets his friends to interpret quintets of Brahms. He also offers an exceptional concert with his program Cinema. The appearances of great conductors like Marek Janowski with the Sinfonieorchester Basel or Mikko Franck with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra are also quite the event. However, the guest of honor of this 2019 edition of the Easter Festival of Aix-en-Provence is the Salzburg Mozartwoche. The new artistic director of the famous Austrian Festival, Rolando Villazón offers a superb series of concerts with the divine Olga Peretyatko, Robert Levin or the beloved Rolando Villazón himself of whom some concerts are directed by conductor Alondra of La Parra.

Fifteen festivities that you should not miss under any circumstance to participate in the great musical event of Easter. You simply have to buy your tickets without delay for the magnificent Easter Festival of Aix-en-Provence.

The 2018-2019 season of the Philharmonie de Paris is very rich in important events. For artists and spectators from all over the world, the modern auditorium with its perfect acoustics has become a must-see for classical music venues in a short time.

It is impossible to detail the many appointments of the season 2018-2019 but to get an idea, just name a name, that of Martha Argerich. The living legend of the piano has taken up residence in the Paris concert hall. She will perform four times in recital, concert or chamber music to pay homage to another great artist, the violinist Ivry Gitlis.

There are few places in the world that can boast on hosting so many big names. Daniel Barenboim, for example, proposes a cycle of Beethoven sonatas at the piano and conducts Boulez and Debussy as part of the French composer’s celebrations. Many events are also organized around the figure of Berlioz, especially in the spotlight in 2019 (it is the 150th anniversary of his death). François-Xavier Roth offers a particularly exciting Berlioz concert series. John Osborn and Kate Lindsey are on the bill for the Damnation of Faust directed this time by Emmanuel Krivine at the head of the Orchestre National de France.

The lyrical recitals follow one another at the Philharmonie de Paris and we must reserve our places without any further delay for Cecilia Bartoli, for example, who is reconnecting with the music of Vivaldi, a composer she has already remarkably well served. Music lovers will not want to miss Renée Fleming’s return to the stage and the most demanding will rush to the recital of Matthias Goerne and Leif Ove Andsnes or even to the Verdi gala with Plácido Domingo.

Other numerous operatic events are still to be noticed, such as Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress directed by Barbara Hannigan or the semi-scenic version of Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen by Peter Sellars and directed by Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to the great Baroque conductors such as Jordi Savall, John Eliot Gardiner, Marc Minkowski and Rene Jacobs who promise big appointments, Valery Gergiev closes the Wagnerian tetralogy.

The list of great guest conductors and renowned orchestras is long and prestigious. Accordingly, Riccardo Chailly comes to the Philharmonie of Paris at the head of the Orchestra of Scala of Milan, Andris Nelsons is on the bill with the Boston Symphony Orchestra then the Gewandhausorchester. We could mention Herbert Blomstedt, Mariss Jansons (and the Bayerischen Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra) or Bernard Haitink (with the London Symphony Orchestra) but we would forget Gustavo Dudamel, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Berliner Philharmoniker and many others … Paavo Järvi Alain Altinoglu.

Similarly, the Paris Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding offers an impressive number of major events with incredible soloists like Radu Lupu, the Labèque sisters, Renaud Capuçon, Igor Levit, Janine Jansen, Christian Gerhaher … The recitals varnish the season 2018 -2019 like the ones of the beloved Khatia Buniatishvili, Lisa Batiashvili, Yuja Wang, Isabelle Faust, the too rare Krystian Zimerman or Yo-Yo Ma.

Other events are to be highlighted as this ballet by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui about the wounded of the Great War or the presence of composer Philip Glass himself. So many reasons to come to Paris in any season without forgetting to reserve your tickets in advance to enjoy a show at the Philharmonie de Paris.

The Zurich Opera House is not only a charming, human-sized theater, but it has the perfect acoustics to accommodate all opera repertoires. For a long time, the hall has been among the best in the world thanks to audacious and successful productions, always served by exceptional distributions.

Is it worth remembering that Cecilia Bartoli has made her home here and that she offers each season an apparition of which she holds the secret? This season 2018-2019, we must book his opera tickets as soon as possible because the reprise of Haendel´s Semele is quite an event. The brilliant production of Robert Carsen with Frédéric Antoun as Jupiter is led by one of the greatest figures of the Baroque, William Christie.

The great Cecilia Bartoli is also on display for opera arias by Handel, Mozart and Rossini. The stars of the operatic singing follow each other on the stage of the Zurich Opera. Bryn Terfel has also become a regular on the scene and is present this season 2018-2019 in a new production of the musical Sweeney Todd of Sondheim, role in which he excels. The director of the hall Andreas Homoki himself is responsible for the staging.

Among the new shows on display, Fabio Luisi, the Musical Director of the Zurich Opera, has chosen to direct Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck staged by Robert Carsen, Verdi’s Nabucco where he has a perfect cast ( Michael Volle, Catherine Naglestad, Veronica Simeoni, Benjamin Bernheim) in a production of Andreas Homoki and finally Le Grand Macabre. Ligeti’s apocalyptic opera is directed by Tatjana Gürbaca, who was responsible for Werther, where Juan Diego Flórez was a great success. Another masterpiece of Massenet is on display, Manon again enjoying an exceptional poster. The young and very talented Elsa Dreisig plays the role of the courtesan facing Piotr Beczala who affirms himself more and more in the French repertoire.

Another masterpiece, Baroque this one, Hippolyte and Aricie de Rameau profits from a dreamcast. Cyrille Dubois, Mélissa Petit, Stéphanie d’Oustrac and Jean-François Lapointe are an ideal combination and this new production will undoubtedly provide one of the highlights of the baroque season 2018-2019. Another Baroque production, La Verità in Cemento by Vivaldi, allows Ottavio Dantone to bring together a five-star cast with Richard Croft, Christophe Dumaux, Delphine Galou and the formidable Julie Fuchs. The soprano who has just accomplished a triumph in Count Ory again sings Rossini with Il turco in Italia where she has as partners, Nahuel Di Pierro, Edgardo Rocha or Pietro Spagnoli.

The same requirement is made on the reprises. For example, Strauss’ masterpiece Der Rosenkavalier includes Krassimira Stoyanova and Sabine Devieilhe for her very first Sophie on stage. Precious tenor Michael Spyres takes on an important role with Pollione in Bellini’s Norma directed by Fabio Luisi in Robert Wilson’s staging with Maria Agresta. Finally three of the world’s greatest sopranos at the Zurich Opera this season 2018-2019 to embody a great role. Diana Damrau is Lucia di Lammermoor, Evelyn Herlitzius the Elektra of Strauss R. and Anja Harteros, the Leonora of The Forza del Destino of Verdi.

In addition to concerts and dance (with Christian Spuck, Jirí Kylián, León & Lightfoot, Patrice Bart, etc.) who hold a grand and noble place in the program of the Zurich Opera, a concert version is particularly noteworthy. Pretty Yende and Lawrence Brownlee are starring in Bellini’s La Sonnambula. A great luxury, only at Opernhaus Zürich where you have to book your opera tickets quickly.

2018 is a pivotal year for the Chorégies d’Orange. The prestigious French festival welcomes the first season signed by its new artistic director Jean-Louis Grinda and a revolution is in progress. He proposes a clever bet with a masterpiece of Italian opera, although little known in France. The Mefistofele of Boito is performed all over the world with success that keeps being renewed since its creation and will excite both the newcomers and the most demanding music lovers. The work thrives with known airs, superb choirs and great theater moments. The music of Boito is comparable to the best Verdi. In Orange, the means were given to create the event with staging by Jean-Louis Grinda in person and will be led by Nathalie Stutzmann. The director who has met all the challenges of Vivaldi to Wagner is surrounded by an ideal distribution with the title holder Erwin Schrott and the talented French tenor Jean-François Borras in the lead.

The cast for the second lyric production of the Chorégies d’Orange 2018 is equally exceptional. Olga Peretyatko and Michael Spyres are two huge stars at the height of their vocal means and Florian Sempey, simply the great French Figaro we were expecting! The appearance of Giampaolo Bisanti, the rising Italian conductor, is very much anticipated.

But the choregies also contains Music in celebration, Pop the Opera, recitals and concerts. A night under the stars enchants young and old with the Fantasy of Disney which is projected on the walls of the Théâtre Antique with a real orchestra, and what an establishment! The Orchestre National de France is directed by Didier Benetti. The other ensemble of national prestige, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France led by Mikhail Tatrnikov offers a Russian night with the great successes of opera and symphony. On stage, an impressive cast is revealed, with the leading voices of Aida Garifullina and Ekaterina Semenchuk. You should reserve your tickets for the Chorégies without delay, because without a doubt, this evening will be memorable. Another event of size is looming in this decidedly very rich season 2018. It was a long time ago that the ballet made its appearance at the Orange festival. On the stage of the Ancient Theater, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne presents Mozart’s Enchanted Flute by the visionary choreographer Maurice Béjart. A performance not to miss. Finally, a very good initiative for voice lovers. Before the big evenings, the Chorégies d’Orange proposes a series of lyrical recitals at 18h, Cour Saint-Louis with four top of the bill artists succeeding one another. Karine Deshayes, Edgardo Rocha, Eva-Maria Westbroek and George Petean fill the most prestigious venues all season long. The Orange 2018 Chorégies announce not only a great season but also an exciting renewal.

In Rome, do not hesitate to cross the austere façade of the Teatro dell’Opera because the hall is beautiful. Italy is the land of the Opera and the capital cannot do without a prominent venue. The great masterpieces follow one another in this magnificent setting of gold and red velvet. You have to book your tickets as soon as possible to attend an opera or ballet performance at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome because dance is also very present.

With a rich season 2018-2019, the titles not to be missed are as always, great and beautiful ballets classics like Swan Lake or Don Quixote. The original choreography of Alexander Gorsky and Marius Petipa has been revised by the great Laurent Hilaire himself. An event not to be missed as the evening devoted to the American composer Philip Glass with choreographies signed Benjamin Millepied, Giorgio Mancini and the young Sebastien Bertaud or the classic Jerome Robbins. Another great choreographer, Angelin Preljocaj, visits Rome Opera for the performances of one of his masterpieces, Snow White.

For the opera, we do not know where to look first because the headlines follow one another on the stage of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. Do not delay to book your opera tickets and thus make sure to attend a performance. The great Italian composers are admirably served in Rome but this season 2018-2019, it is undoubtedly Mozart who is put in the spotlight. His delightful Nozze di Figaro are programmed as well as the magical Zauberflöte in the incredible staging of Barrie Kosky and Suzanne Andrade, silent film way. Another Mozart event, Idomeneo is sung, by two tenors in the roles of Idomeneo and Idamante. All that’s missing is Don Giovanni to complete the picture. Directed by Jérémie Rhorer, the production is signed by the great Graham Vick.

Among the outstanding directors, Robert Carsen has signed some major productions such as Gluck’s recent and magnificent Orfeo ed Euridice infused with humanism (with Emöke Baráth) and Idomeneo. Renowned filmmaker Sofia Coppola is again present this season 2018-2019 with the reprise of Verdi’s La Traviata. The Italian composer obviously has his place at the Rome Opera with a splendid Rigoletto where we can applaud the new star, Lisette Oropesa.

Notable singers include Alessio Arduini (Don Giovanni and Papageno) and Vito Priante (Figaro). Valentina Varriale, Jessica Nuccio and Claudia Pavone share the role of Violetta in La Traviata. Anna Bolena of Donizetti is eagerly awaited for the confrontation of divas with in Rome, Maria Agresta, Valentina Varriale or Carmela Remigio. Svetlana Kasyan and Monica Zanettin play Puccini’s Tosca and in Rossini’s stunning Cenerentola, Annalisa Stroppa or Teresa Iervolino can be applauded facing Michele Angelini or René Barbera.

Music lovers also remember the performances of Prokofiev’s rare Fiery Angel or that divine Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe) with Nadja Mchantaf and Paulo Szot. An Italian season not to be missed in the magnificent Teatro dell’Opera di Roma!

The Teatro San Carlo in Naples is undoubtedly the most beautiful opera theater in Italy (without forgetting, of course, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice or the Scala in Milan). A visit to the capital of Campania can only result in the booking of opera places to attend a performance in this place of legend. The season is sufficiently packed to find the ballet, the opera or the concert of your liking. The season 2018-2019 shows, as usual, the great opera performances such as I Pagliacci by Leoncavallo and Verdi’s masterpieces, La Traviata and Nabucco (with Anna Pirozzi in the role of Abigaille) or this immortal Bohemian of Puccini ideally programmed in winter.

As for ballet, The Nutcracker is an essential part of the end of the year festivities that always delights young and old. Swan Lake and The Midsummer Night’s Dream are shows of incredible intensity and lyricism that you have to see and see again. To note also, this famous Pulcinella on the music of Stravinsky brought to life in the choreography of Francesco Nappa.

Since taking over the artistic direction of the orchestra (Ochestra del Teatro di San Carlo), conductor Juraj Valčuha has been offering a series of excellent concerts. With distinguished guests such as renowned conductors Andris Poga and Yutaka Sado, he has built a symphonic program that encompasses the great composers, Beethoven in the lead. The symphonies of the German composer are at the heart of a marathon day with the Ninth as a culmination with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai. Other concerts directed by Juraj Valcuha include a sixth of Mahler and a powerful Messa da Requiem of Verdi with a fine cast.

More about great voices, two key recitals are announced. The opportunities to applaud the soprano Mariella Devia have become rare, so we must rush to book our tickets. Is it necessary to present Cecilia Bartoli who also comes to Naples for a singing recital with Les Musiciens du Prince? Big stars are expected this season 2018-2019 as Maxim Vengerov or young and talented Gregory Sokolov and Conrad Tao. Valery Gergiev creates the event with the Mariinsky Orchestra in a program of Mendelssohn, Mussorgsky and Debussy. But for the international opera scene, it is the production of Mozart’s masterpiece, Così fan tutte, which is the highlight of the season. The staging is entrusted to Chiara Muti and the direction to her father, the immense Riccardo Muti, without doubt the greatest conductor today.

Opera is obviously at the center of the rich programming. The Italian repertoire is in its place in the wonderful Teatro San Carlo of Naples with gems of opera such as Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana (with Marcelo Álvarez), the rare Rossini’s Ermione, Verdi’s ballad in maschera or this Madama Butterfly from Puccini where Aleksandra Kurzak and Amarilli Nizza alternate. However, the great international repertoire is not forgotten thanks to Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann, Wagner’s Die Walküre or Janácek’s moving Káta Kabanová directed by Juraj Valcuha and staged by Willy Decker. Also noteworthy, the Baroque opera, Siroe, Re di Persia by Leornado Vinci and Gershwin’s musical, Lady be good, which are on display at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. All you have to do is reserve your tickets!

December 7th is the best-known date for music lovers all over the world because they know that this is the opening date of the famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan. This does not mean that the hall is out of order from September to November. There are even very beautiful shows on the bill. Strauss’ sensational Elektra in Patrice Chéreau’s staging is an opera to be booked urgently.

Two other productions are noteworthy because we do not often have the opportunity to applaud Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera (beautifully distributed in Milan) or Verdi’s Ernani, a masterpiece that has been under-estimated. Two great recitals by Sonya Yoncheva and Jonas Kaufmann will soon be sold out. The famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan is a must for great singers. It is not surprising to meet Jonas Kaufmann as Krasimira Stoyanova, Jessica Pratt, Marianne Crebassa, Christian Gerhaher or Günther Groissböck in recital.

On June 23, 2019, those who will have the chance to book a show ticket for La Scala in Milan, will attend the event of the season: a Gala Concert with Sonya Yoncheva, Jonas Kaufmann, Plácido Domingo, Juan Diego Flórez and the pianist Yuja Wang. As the icing on the cake, the Wiener Philharmoniker is directed by Gustavo Dudamel.

The season of classical concerts and ballet is prestigious with the presence of formations like the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists for a concert version of Haendel’s Semele led by the perfect John Eliot Gardiner. The icon Teodor Currentzis performs in Milan. Other equally lavish concerts of the Filarmonica della Scala are directed by Riccardo Chailly, artistic director of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, of course, but also by Zubin Mehta, Myung-Whun Chung and Christoph von Dohnányi.

On the dance side, the Bolshoi Ballet and Tokyo Ballet are prestigious guest companies. Roberto Bolle and Svetlana Zakharova, superstar stars are regulars in the scala scene. This season 2018-2019, they dance together in The History of Manon and separately. She dances Giselle while he performs Onegin. Other great classic ballets are on the poster like Sleeping Beauty or The Nutcracker (you have to book your tickets quickly). Note that modernity makes a beautiful appearance with two renowned choreographers, Angelin Preljocaj and Wayne McGregor.

But of course, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan is first and foremost the scene for operas. This 2018-2019 season opens with an event. With Attila, Riccardo Chailly has chosen a rather rare young Verdi (embodied by Ildar Abdrazakov). As always, the season displays an impressive and unbroken succession of big stars. Sonya Yoncheva and Marina Rebeka are two superb Traviata that charm Francesco Meli and Benjamin Bernheim (also Leo Nucci or Plácido Domingo!). An incredible Giulio Cesare from Haendel brings together Cecilia Bartoli, Bejun Mehta and Philippe Jaroussky in a staging of the genial Robert Carsen.

Valery Gergiev directs the performances of Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina and Christoph von Dohnányi, a fascinating Idomeneo by Mozart with a perfect cast (Bernard Richter, Michèle Losier …). Strauss and Korngold have the stage honors with Ariadne auf Naxos and an idyllic women’s duo (Krassimira Stoyanova, Sabine Devieilhe) and Die tote Stadt, tailor-made for Klaus Florian Vogt and Asmik Grigorian. Other shows are equally worthy of interest, such as Rossini’s Cenerentola with Marianne Crebassa, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with the unbeatable Ambrogio Maestri or Leo Nucci immortal Rigoletto.

And since we are in Milan, we have to book opera tickets for the historical repertoire of the famous hall like Manon Lescaut by Puccini (with Maria Jose Siri and Marcelo Álvarez), I Masnadieri by Verdi (with Lisette Oropesa) in the staging of David McVicar or L’Elisir d’Amore by Donizetti, a masterpiece with Vittorio Grigòlo and René Barbera alternately. A beautiful season, in every way …

Among the major European capitals, Berlin is undoubtedly the city which thrives with the most events and great appointments throughout the season. In perpetual motion, Berlin’s cultural life has been enriched by the return of a flagship theater, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Closed for too long, Germany’s historic opera has not only regained its former glory, but has modernized to welcome spectators in perfect acoustics.

Attending a show at the Staatsoper is one of the greatest moments for a music lover, especially in this 2018-2019 season for which you should book your opera tickets as soon as possible. The reasons to visit Berlin are many, for example to see Daniel Barenboim lead the famous orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin. The illustrious pianist and conductor pursues a perfect artistic policy as Musical Director of the noble institution. He continues his Debussy cycle by proposing the Pelléas et Mélisande of Ruth Berghaus directed by Maxime Pascal with three great artists on the bill, the unexpected Rolando Villazón, the revelation Marianne Crebassa and the perfect Luca Pisaroni who reclaims a role he is very fond of.

In concert at both the Berlin Philharmonie and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Daniel Barenboim directs Daphnis and Chloé by Ravel and Dvorák’s Cello Concerto with young artist Kian Soltani. At the opera, he again directs Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and offers a golden role to the great soprano Sonya Yoncheva. In the Medea Cherubini, she appears together with partners Charles Castronovo and Elsa Dreisig.

The distribution of Verdi’s Falstaff, also conducted by Barenboim is remarkable (Michael Volle, Maria Agresta, Daniela Barcellona, Nadine Sierra …). But the highlight is probably Macbeth with Plácido Domingo, Ekaterina Semenchuk and René Pape. Daniel Barenboim had the great idea to schedule a special series for Easter. During the Festtagge , you must book your opera tickets as soon as possible to attend one of the most anticipated shows this season 2018-2019. The hilarious Prokofiev opera Betrothal in a Monastery with Aída Garifullina, Violeta Urmana and Stephan Rügamer is staged by Dmitri Tcherniakov, always surprising.

The other show on the bill is Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg with Wolfgang Koch, Burkhard Fritz and Julia Kleiter. Superstar Anna Netrebko is at the Philharmonie to sing Verdi’s opera arias. Another festival called Barocktage shows the great Baroque leaders such as Christophe Rousset, Jordi Savall or Marc Minkowski who, together with his Musicians of the Louvre, proposes the imaginary symphony of Rameau. The big Baroque event of the season is also a nice surprise because the immense Simon Rattle, conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, directs the production of Hippolyte and Aricie by Rameau signed by Aletta Collins with the Freiburger Barockorchester and an ideal distribution (Reinoud Van Mechelen, Anna Prohaska, Magdalena Kozená, Gyula Orendt, Elsa Dreisig).

Do not forget the highlights of dance with the Staatsballett Berlin, which offers masterpieces like La Bayadère by Marius Petipa or Onegin by John Cranko. With productions such as Der Freischütz by Weber directed by Marc Minkowski, Le Nozze di Figaro with Dorothea Röschmann, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo and Anna Prohaska, Rigoletto with Christopher Maltman, Nadine Sierra and Michael Fabiano, Monteverdi’s Orfeo with Georg Nigl, Freiburger Barockorchester and a choreography by Sasha Waltz or L’Incoronazione di Poppea with Roberta Mameli and Max Emanuel Cencic, it is urgent to order your seats for the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
