José Martinez, 53, former director of the Spanish National Dance Company and danseur Etoile of the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris, has been appointed Director of Dance of the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris.  He will replace Aurélie Dupont, who left her position on 31 July 2022, and will take up his post on 5 December 2022.

After a long selection period and the study of 23 applications, Alexander Neef‘s final choice was José Martinez: “His brilliant career as a dancer, his experience as a company director and choreographer, as well as his sensitivity to mediation and inclusion actions will ensure the stability, influence and excellence of the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris”.
