​The great city of Rome has a beautiful opera house, however without the reputation of La Fenice in Venice and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. And yet one should book seats at the Teatro dell’Opera as between ballets, opera performances and concerts, there are many beautiful things to see. Italy is the country where the lyrical genre was born and Rome, the capital, fortunately doesn´t forget this …

 

The beautiful idea of ​​the Italian capital is to distinguish itself slightly from the theaters, often too specialized in the unique Italian repertoire, by representing quite varied works. This is what is expected of a great opera house. Thus, Pierre Audi’s production of Wagners masterpiece, Tristan und Isolde is a success to be seen. Not only because the refined decors enhance the drama but also because the inspired chef Daniele Gatti flirts with perfection.

 

In the German repertoire, Lulu, the bitter masterpiece. Berg’s  notoriously difficult  music is however fluid and is carried by the powerful plot, rarely equaled in opera. Once again, the choice of the famous director William Kentridge is paying off. This event is one of the highlights of the season.

 

Another highly anticipated show is Maria Stuarda of Donizetti, a masterpiece of bel canto. This new production offers the beautiful Marina Rebeka, alternating the role with Roberta Mantegna. Obviously, the distributions of Teatro dell’Opera in Rome are quite remarkable.

 

The great music lovers have since long followed the career of the extraordinary singer Gregory Kunde and recognize his incredible talent. The tenor is also starring in another masterpiece of the Italian opera, Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. Verdi is the leading composer of the world’s major opera stages and music lovers will be delighted to find two of his masterpieces, Rigoletto and Il Trovatore, on this seasons program together with Il Viaggio a Reims. With this work Rossini composed an opera which allows many singers to evolve on stage and of course, some beautiful new discoveries are being made. Mozart is not forgotten this season 2016-2017 with Così fan tutte with an all Italian cast!

 

But the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome also represents a beautiful ballet company. One can book seats with the assurance of a great classical evening. The masterpieces are performed with respect for the original choreography. Besides Swan Lake, Nutcracker or La Chauve Souris (danced in the famous choreography by Roland Petit), one of the great highlights of this season is the Sleeping Beauty and choreography by Jean-Guillaume Bart, perfect ballet master.

The season is beautiful in Rome and to appreciate the events, we must quickly book seats at the Teatro dell’Opera!
