While he is currently appearing at the Opéra Bastille in the role of Maurice de Saxe in Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur (alongside Anna Netrebko from 16 to 25 January 2024), tenor Yusif Eyvazov is due to give a recital at the Salle Gaveau on 29 January 2024 as part of the Philippe Maillard Productions season. One detail will intrigue music lovers, as the programme announces “Vogliatemi bene“, the famous duet from Madama Butterfly in which a soprano is required. Although no other name is given, is this a printing error or a surprise? Need we remind you that Yusif Eyvazov and Anna Netrebko are partners both on stage and off?

Thunderclap in Barcelona

The Gran Teatre del Liceu was looking forward to offering one of the most exciting performances of the international season with Adriana Lecouvreur in June 2024. However, Jonas Kaufmann has cancelled his participation “for reasons beyond the Theatre’s control”, according to the Liceu. Another leading singer, Anita Rachvelishvili, who was due to perform as la Bouillon, has also withdrawn from the production for artistic reasons. The other alternating cast has changed also, with Eleonora Buratto saying she was not yet ready for the role. A real Chinese puzzle was then put in place with tenor Freddie di Tommaso replacing Jonas Kaufmann and Roberto Alagna called upon to replace the dates scheduled for Freddie di Tommaso! Aleksandra Kurzak and Valeria Sepe sing Adriana instead of Eleonora Buratto, while Daniela Barcellona and Clémentine Margaine share Anita Rachvelishvili‘s dates. The only member of the cast to remain unchanged is the great Sonya Yoncheva, who will perform on 16, 19, 22 and 26 June 2024.

Adrienne Lecouvreur, more celebrated than ever in Paris

The great tragedienne Adrienne Lecouvreur inspired an opera, Adriana Lecouvreur, Cilea‘s masterpiece, which is set to delight the Parisian stage. While the actress will be played by Anna Netrebko and Anna Pirozzi in alternation from 16 January to 7 February 2024 at the Opéra national de Paris, a concert version is performed at the Théâtre de Champs-Elysées on Tuesday 5 December 2023. Tamara Wilson and Brian Jagde will be the lovers thwarted by Clémentine Margaine, the wicked (and impressive) Princesse de Bouillon. The Orchestre & Chœurs de l’Opéra de Lyon are conducted by Daniele Rustioni, current Music Director of the Opera House in Lyon.
