]]> The year 2025 is undoubtedly a Pierre Boulez Year, marking the centenary of his birth. He was a great composer, an influential conductor, as well as a teacher and philosopher. Wednesday, March 26, 2025, marks the exact 100th anniversary of his birth. On this occasion, the city of Baden-Baden, where he is buried, and the Festspielhaus will pay tribute to him with a full-day birthday celebration. The forecourt of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden will be renamed Place Pierre Boulez, and in the evening, a musical birthday celebration will take place, featuring live discussions, film excerpts, and, of course, music! Throughout the season, numerous Boulez concerts will follow, including performances by the Ensemble intercontemporain and renowned artists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Antonio Pappano with the London Symphony Orchestra, and François-Xavier Roth, returning to lead the SWR Symphonieorchester.

]]> The renowned conductor and celebrated composer Pierre Boulez would have turned 100 in 2025.

Thus, a “Boulez Year” is on the horizon, already making waves in Germany, particularly in Baden-Baden, the musical city of the Black Forest. Boulez lived and worked there for more than 60 years and was named an honorary citizen of the town. The composer’s grave is also located in Baden-Baden‘s main cemetery.

An anniversary program is, of course, planned at the Festspielhaus, with a highlight scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the centenary of his birth. The International Whitsun Festival PRÉSENCE, taking place from May 31 to June 9, 2025, will also be dedicated to him.

]]> Having just founded a new orchestra, Utopia, with the goal of allowing musicians to dedicate themselves to preparatory and research work while continuing to hone their musical mastery in order to achieve visionary artistic goals, conductor Teodor Currentzis is launching his own record label. Named Thêta, after the Greek letter, as a tribute to the conductor’s origins, this label will enable him to record the repertoire performed by his various ensembles, starting with Utopia, the most recent, founded in 2022. While awaiting the first releases scheduled for 2025 (Bruckner‘s 9th Symphony and Mahler‘s 3rd Symphony), the conductor is showcasing this repertoire around the world. For example, he will conduct Mahler‘s Symphony No. 5 at the Berlin Philharmonie on October 23, 2024, and at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on October 25.
