Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, the temple of opera and the most famous opera house in the world along with the Palais Garnier, has just been given new spaces. As part of the overall reorganisation project, which began in the 2000s with the restoration and extension of the eighteenth-century hall, a new tower has just been inaugurated, with eleven floors housing offices, the Ballet rehearsal room and the backstage area for unloading and pre-assembling sets. Designed by Mario Botta in collaboration with the Emilio Pizzi studio, the 38-metre-high tower is located behind the historic hall designed by architect Giuseppe Piermarini and is integrated into the Theatre’s new modern structure.
