]]> Baroque music lovers make a pilgrimage to Beaune to indulge in the rich offerings of the International Baroque Opera Festival.

Staying true to the vision of Anne Blanchard and the late Kader Hassissi, the festival’s new artistic director, Maximilien Hondemarck, has unveiled a program where regular attendees will once again find the great names of Baroque music among the prestigious guests.

Operas, oratorios, recitals, and sacred music follow one another over four festival weekends, set as always in the enchanting Hospices but also in Beaune’s most beautiful venues, which open their doors to music especially for the occasion.

Each weekend is centered around a period, a composer, or a theme—such as Music in the Time of Louis XIV. Three great composers are particularly celebrated: Alessandro Scarlatti, in honor of the 300th anniversary of his death, as well as Jean-Philippe Rameau and the ever-iconic Georg Friedrich Handel. With Bach also in the spotlight, leading artists have answered the call of Burgundy and its music, including conductors Christophe Rousset, Vincent Dumestre, and Thibault Noally, alongside singers Véronique Gens, Ambroisine Bré, Victoire Bunel, Camille Chopin, Marie Perbost, Marie Lys, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Laurence Kilsby, and many, many more!

]]> This production will undoubtedly stand as one of the most memorable of the Michel Franck era. For his final season as general and artistic director of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, he has made the excellent decision to revive Dialogues des Carmélites in Olivier Py’s unforgettable staging, running from December 4 to 12, 2024.

Poulenc’s masterpiece returns to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées under the baton of American conductor Karina Canellakis. On this occasion, to signify the passage of time and the handover between generations, Patricia Petibon, who once delivered a remarkable performance as Blanche de la Force, now takes on the role of Mère Marie, while Vannina Santoni will play the new Blanche. Véronique Gens reprises her role as Madame Lidoine, and Sophie Koch takes on the role of Madame de Croissy, after having previously portrayed Mère Marie.

She received her award at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards 2023, which also honoured the CD ‘Rivales’ recorded with Sandrine Piau and Julien Chauvin, with the Voice and Ensemble Award. The great French soprano will be back on a gondola in Venice as Giulietta in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann from 24 November to 2 December 2023 at the Teatro La Fenice.

Charpentier by performing a concert version of his Medea on the stage of the Théâtre de l’avenue Montaigne. Anna Pirozzi in Athens and Véronique Gens in Paris, on Monday 27 March 2023, will perform as the infanticidal magician. The great French soprano will take on Cyrille Dubois’ Jason with Hervé Niquet and his Concert Spirituel to conduct the tragedy in music.

In January 2023, the Orchestre National de Lille, conducted by Alexandre Bloch, will support the superb soprano in Francis Poulenc’s La Voix humaine, on Wednesday 25 January at the Nouveau Siècle in Lille and on Friday 27 January 2023, in the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez at the Philharmonie de Paris. The concerts follow the expected release of the CD by Alpha on the 13th.
