2016-2017 season: Festspielhaus (Baden-Baden)

Discover the 2016-2017 season!

It is no secret that the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden has focused on excellence to attract audiences around the world and the bet is won big time. For many seasons, the German hall has remained one of the most important theaters thanks to its perfect programming, inviting orchestras and the best international soloists. Analyzing the rich program for the 2016-2017 season, one can count the stars and come to the conclusion that they have nearly all responded.

As for the pianists, the rare Krystian Zimerman is on the stage of Baden-Baden and even almost exclusively this season. The prestigious generation of Martha Argerich, András Schiff, Rudolf Buchbinder and Grigory Sokolov alongside the younger generation of Christopher Park (winner Leonard Bernstein 2014) or Yulianna Avdeeva (Chopin Competition 2010) and the confirmed participation of Hélène Grimaud, Simon Trpceski or Daniil Trifonov. With the strings, it is a similar happening. The fabulous Anne-Sophie Mutter is a regular at his location, soon joined by confirmed soloists as the grand Gidon Kremer, Pinchas Zukerman, Daniel Hope, Sol Gabetta or Lisa Batiashvili and the younger generation with Edgar Moreau. The list is even more amazing if we add the conductors, Neville Marriner, Riccardo Chailly, Riccardo Muti and the young Robin Ticciati and especially Valery Gergiev who will be visiting several times, as also Yannick Nézet-Séguin. During the famous Osterfestspiele we cross the current and the next music director of the Berlin Philharmonic, Simon Rattle and Kirill Petrenko. Also to note is a beautiful baroque season with William Christie, René Jacobs and Hervé Niquet …

Besides dance with great choreographers such as John Neumeier, Maurice Béjart or Frederick Ashton and a series of classical ballet with the forces of the Mariinsky, the opera season is especially noteworthy. Cecilia Bartoli plays Norma in the staging of Patrice Caurier & Moshe Leiser. Yannick Nézet-Séguin continues his Mozart cycle with La Clemenza di Tito in a dream cast (Joyce DiDonato, Sonya Yoncheva, Rolando Villazón …). The wonderful recitalist Christian Gerhaher sings Winterreise by Schubert. And also some wonderful couples on stage, Olga Peretyatko and Lawrence Brownlee, Sonya Yoncheva and Piotr Beczala for the New Year Gala or an electrifying Tosca, Kristine Opolais together with by Marcelo Álvarez and Evgeny Nikitin. In a different genre, the hilarious Max Raabe proposes Eine Nacht in Berlin. Each event is the promise of a meeting with the best of the season.
