The Greek National Opera has announced the renewal of Giorgos Koumendakis‘ mandate as Artistic Director for another three years. A renowned composer, Giorgos Koumendakis enters his third consecutive term with some challenges. After focusing on establishing the foundations of the artistic identity of a new venue (the superb Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center), after redefining the functioning of the organisation, he will realise his “vision of creating a true 21st century opera“. The Callas Year 2023 is already expected to include a major event such as Cherubini’s Medea with Anna Pirozzi.
