Chen Reiss’ bright smile

Having just founded the musical association Sourire Music, the superb soprano Chen Reiss received a few privileged guests in Paris, on 26 March 2023, in the Parisian mansion Le Sourire de Passy for a private concert in the spirit of the salons of the 18th and 19th centuries. On this occasion, she presented this new associative activity whose mission is to support and promote classical musicians at the beginning of their career by offering them training, advice and a performance platform. Accompanied with sensitivity and professionalism by pianist Nico de Villiers, two young artists from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester performed for forty guests in the intimate setting of the villa near the Maison de la Radio, which offers comfort and very good acoustics. Violinist Kate Bordoni performed the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, while clarinettist Joshua Pyman chose Schumann and his Fantasiestücke. Even greater applause greeted the parts with the soprano who performed five Mahler songs (from the Knaben Wunderhorn and the Rückert-Lieder) and especially the four last songs by Richard Strauss. The beautiful opulence of Chen Reiss’ Mozart voice in this repertoire is enchanting… Miss Reiss announced the next appointment in April with the violinist Hilary Hahn who will give masterclasses to a few lucky students. In the meantime, generosity and donations in support of this happy initiative are welcome at https://souriremusic.com/
