Madame Faust

The Palazzetto Bru Zane has been accustomed to rediscoveries for almost fifteen years now, but the announcement of the programme for the 10th edition of its Festival in Paris (from 19 June to 4 July 2023) is still surprising. On the programme, the rare Grisélidis by Jules Massenet, created in 1901 at the Opéra-Comique, will be performed in concert version on the stage of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, on 4 July 2023. The even more curious will go to Avenue Montaigne on 20 June to discover Fausto by Louise Bertin. Created at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris in 1831, the Italian-language opera is indeed the work of a French woman composer. Although created by a tenor, the title role was conceived for a woman in drag. It is the great Karine Deshayes who will perform as Goethe’s hero alongside Karina Gauvin’s Margherita, conducted by Christophe Rousset at the head of the Talens Lyriques.
