Mahlerian youth in Bamberg

Renowned for its interpretations of Gustav Mahler’s symphonies (by Joseph Keilberth or recently Jonhatan Nott), the Bamberger Symphoniker is getting ready to host the seventh edition of the prestigious international competition for young conductors under 35 years old. Like the previous winners Gustavo Dudamel and Lahav Shani, the young conductors will compete for the first prize, from 7 to 15 July 2023 before a prestigious jury chaired by Marina Mahler (the composer’s granddaughter), Jakub Hrůša, the orchestra’s current director, and its general manager Marcus Rudolf Axt. The jury is also composed of personalities such as Deborah Borda (president of the New York Philharmonic) or great artists like Thomas Hampson and Barbara Hannigan.
