An exclusive documentary about Maria Callas will be screened on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 8 p.m. at the Grand Action Cinema (5 rue des Ecoles, Paris 5), as not everything has been said about the greatest soprano of the 20th century! This documentary, Mary, Marianna, Maria: The Unknown Greek Years of Callas, was created during the celebration of the centenary of the Greek diva’s death and sheds light on Callas’s early years. It was in Greece, where her family returned in 1937, that Maria Kalogeropoulos (born in New York) trained in lyrical singing and took on her first roles. Previously unseen audio and video footage are featured in the documentary, along with interviews and testimonies from those who knew her. It also looks back at the diva’s return to Athens in 1957 for her recital at the Herod Atticus Theater, and in 1960 and 1961 for her two opera performances (Norma and Medea) at the Epidaurus Theater.
