Not “mille e tre” but 100 for Don Giovanni

Lille Opera is particularly in the news this 2023-2024 season as the venerable institution celebrates a double anniversary. Just 20 years ago, the opera house returned to the public after a long period of closure for renovation. But it’s the 100th anniversary in particular that will be celebrated this year, as the Lille Opera opened its doors on 7 October 1923 with Gounod’s Faust. However, it is another myth that has been chosen for the celebrations. From 5 to 16 October 2023 (an extra date has just been added), Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the opera of operas directed by Guy Cassiers, will be conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm, with the loyal Concert d’Astrée in residence since 2004. This season will also be the penultimate for Caroline Sonrier, who will sadly retire from directing the Opéra in 2025.
