Hervé Niquet Spends Valentine’s Day with Persée

Launched in 2022 with Ariane et Bacchus by Marin Marais, the cycle of Baroque operas presented by Hervé Niquet and the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées will come to an end on February 14, 2025.

Following Médée by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Iphigénie en Tauride by Henri Desmarest and André Campra, a flamboyant Persée by Lully will conclude this Baroque tetralogy in Niquet’s rendition. The joint residency of Le Concert Spirituel and the CMBV at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées also comes to a close on Valentine’s evening, although the love story continues as all the operas have been recorded and released under the Alpha Classics label.

For those eager to discover rare gems or revisit cornerstone works of the repertoire, such as this mature Persée by Lully, the stage will feature Mathias Vidal, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Michèle Losier, Déborah Cachet, as well as the Pages and Chantres of the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, always impeccably prepared by Fabien Armengaud.

In Paris, the Opéra-Comique, always at the cutting edge, is preparing to host (from 27 September to 5 October 2023) La Fille de Madame Angot, a huge popular success by Charles Lecocq. Under the musical direction of Hervé Niquet, Richard Brunel‘s staging brings together the great names of Hélène Guilmette, Véronique Gens, Pierre Derhet, Julien Behr, etc., ready to take on their roles like that of the famous Clairette, created in Paris by Paola Marié. The soprano’s sister was Célestine Galli-Marié, the creator at Comique of the iconic Carmen!

Medea of Paris and Athens

While Cherubini’s Medea is expected in Athens next April, the united forces of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles summon the spirit of M.-A. Charpentier by performing a concert version of his Medea on the stage of the Théâtre de l’avenue Montaigne. Anna Pirozzi in Athens and Véronique Gens in Paris, on Monday 27 March 2023, will perform as the infanticidal magician. The great French soprano will take on Cyrille Dubois’ Jason with Hervé Niquet and his Concert Spirituel to conduct the tragedy in music.

Mozart makes his comeback at Versailles !

The little Mozart was introduced to the Grand Couvert of King Louis XV at the Court of Versailles when he was only 7 years old. To commemorate this event, the Royal Opera of Versailles will program four operas of the divine composer in December and January. From December 27, 2022 to January 1, 2023, Hervé Niquet conducts Die Zauberflöte staged by Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek. Marc Minkowski and Ivan Alexandre present an eventful Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy with the Musiciens du Louvre, from January 15 to 22, 2023, with Le nozze di Figaro (on January 15 and 20), Don Giovanni (on January 17 and 21), and Così fan tutte (on January 18 and 22). Four major productions not to be missed.
