Freshly crowned, the winners of the Voix Nouvelles Competition are heading out on tour, with a stop scheduled for February 17, 2025, at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

Emy Gazeilles, Livia Louis-Joseph-Dogué, Juliette Mey, Héloïse Poulet, Léo Vermot-Desroches, and Lotte Verstaen are already familiar names and will become even better known during this concert featuring opera arias and ensembles. Accompanied by Rodolphe Lospied and hosted by Saskia De Ville, the evening promises to be a memorable showcase. However, Lauranne Oliva, the grand prize winner, will sadly be absent, unable to attend due to other commitments.

After Carmen and the Beheaded, Marina as Charlotte!

An exciting event is brewing at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, which will host Benjamin Bernheim’s first Parisian Werther. Widely considered one of today’s greatest French tenors, he will perform from March 22 to April 6, 2025, in a production directed by Christof Loy.

This staging also marks a milestone for another beloved artist, well-known to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées audience and Parisians alike. Marina Viotti, who captivated the public during the Olympic Games opening ceremony by singing a hard rock version of a Carmen aria while perched on the Fluctuat nec mergitur ship in front of the beheaded of the Conciergerie, is back. She has just won a Grammy Award for “Best Metal Performance” alongside the band Gojira.

The stunning Swiss mezzo-soprano, who debuted her first Carmen at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, will once again honor Paris by taking on another iconic role: Charlotte.

Hervé Niquet Spends Valentine’s Day with Persée

Launched in 2022 with Ariane et Bacchus by Marin Marais, the cycle of Baroque operas presented by Hervé Niquet and the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées will come to an end on February 14, 2025.

Following Médée by Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Iphigénie en Tauride by Henri Desmarest and André Campra, a flamboyant Persée by Lully will conclude this Baroque tetralogy in Niquet’s rendition. The joint residency of Le Concert Spirituel and the CMBV at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées also comes to a close on Valentine’s evening, although the love story continues as all the operas have been recorded and released under the Alpha Classics label.

For those eager to discover rare gems or revisit cornerstone works of the repertoire, such as this mature Persée by Lully, the stage will feature Mathias Vidal, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Michèle Losier, Déborah Cachet, as well as the Pages and Chantres of the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, always impeccably prepared by Fabien Armengaud.

Karine Deshayes transitions from Norma to Semiramide

As the final of the 7th Voix des Outre-mer Competition, of which she is the patron, takes place tonight, Karine Deshayes is expected in Bordeaux from January 29 to February 6, 2025, and then in Toulouse from March 26 to April 6, 2025, to embody the role of roles: Norma, which she currently performs like no other.

Following this, the great French mezzo-soprano will once again take on a soprano role with a Rossini masterpiece, Semiramide, in Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau‘s production at the Opéra de Rouen from June 10 to 14, 2025, and in a concert version at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on June 17.

A Ukrainian Christmas in Paris

In 2022, performances by the ballet and orchestra of the National Opera of Ukraine moved audiences to tears. As part of the TranscenDanses season at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and despite ongoing challenges in their living and working conditions, the troupe returns to Paris. From December 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025, they will present 17 performances of The Snow Maiden, a ballet inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. This festive production will feature a cast of over 100 artists on stage, promising a magical holiday season.

Semele feels Pretty at the Champs-Elysées

A major work by Handel returns to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées for only five performances, from February 6 to 15, 2025. Semele, the oratorio perfectly suited to staging, was last seen in Paris in 2004 under the baton of Marc Minkowski with direction by David McVicar. This time, the highly anticipated production is entrusted to Oliver Mears, the current director of London’s Royal Ballet and Opera, while the renowned baroque conductor Emmanuelle Haïm will lead the orchestra.

However, the main draw for music lovers is undoubtedly the cast: Pretty Yende, the celebrated soprano, will make her role debut as Semele, a part known for its demanding range and intricate vocal lines. She will be joined by tenor Ben Bliss, also making his debut as Jupiter, Alice Coote as Juno, and Carlo Vistoli, a rising countertenor, in the brief role of Athamas.

Pierre Boulez Returns to Paris

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées will honor Pierre Boulez with a concert in Paris on January 7, 2025, featuring the orchestra Les Siècles. This performance follows a concert in Tourcoing, the northern city where the orchestra is in residence at the Atelier Lyrique. In Tourcoing, they will perform the iconic Pli selon Pli and two classics by Debussy (Trois poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé, in an orchestral arrangement by Heinz Holliger, and La Mer) on January 5, the anniversary of Boulez’s passing in 2016. On stage, French-Cypriot soprano Sarah Aristidou will be accompanied by Franck Ollu, a specialist in French music and contemporary repertoire, conducting the orchestra. The two artists step in to replace François-Xavier Roth and Sabine Devieilhe, who were initially announced.

A New Sacrifice of the Carmelites at the TCE

This production will undoubtedly stand as one of the most memorable of the Michel Franck era. For his final season as general and artistic director of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, he has made the excellent decision to revive Dialogues des Carmélites in Olivier Py’s unforgettable staging, running from December 4 to 12, 2024.

Poulenc’s masterpiece returns to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées under the baton of American conductor Karina Canellakis. On this occasion, to signify the passage of time and the handover between generations, Patricia Petibon, who once delivered a remarkable performance as Blanche de la Force, now takes on the role of Mère Marie, while Vannina Santoni will play the new Blanche. Véronique Gens reprises her role as Madame Lidoine, and Sophie Koch takes on the role of Madame de Croissy, after having previously portrayed Mère Marie.

The Champs-Elysées under the Snow from Kyiv in December

Their December 2022 visit to Paris brought spectators at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to tears. This winter, the ballet and orchestra of the National Opera of Ukraine are returning for 17 exceptional performances from December 21, 2024, to January 5, 2025, on the Avenue Montaigne stage.

Despite enduring extremely difficult living and working conditions for well-known, tragic reasons, the company will present The Snow Queen, a ballet inspired by Hans Christian Andersen‘s tale, set to music by Grieg, Massenet, Offenbach, Johann Strauss, and Berlioz.

Featuring the soloists and ballet corps of the National Opera of Ukraine, the performance will also include the Prométhée Orchestra, conducted by Sergii Golubnychyi, in choreography by Aniko Rekhviashvili, who directed the company from 2013 to 2019.
