Kévin Amiel, a Candide Don José

After his triumphant performance as Don José in Saint-Pierre, Martinique, during the Filao Festival, tenor Kévin Amiel will reprise the role in January 2025 in Versailles.

The gilded splendor of the Royal Opera of the Château de Versailles will replace the open-air setting and raw walls of the ruins of the Saint-Pierre Theatre. Following his collaboration with the sensual Marie-Laure Garnier as Carmen, he will reunite from January 15 to 19, 2025, with Eleonore Pancrazi in the title role.

Don José is the character he will next bring to life in Hong Kong, before taking a different turn in Bologna, where he is slated to perform in Bernstein‘s Candide, a far less violent role.

Mozart and Camille Delaforge Take Command at Versailles

On November 16, 2024, the Chapelle Royale of Versailles will host the dynamic ensemble Il Caravaggio and its conductor Camille Delaforge, as they explore the origins of Mozart. The work on the program, Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots (The Obligation of the First Commandment), is in fact Mozart’s first sacred opera. Rarely performed, this early operatic attempt by the divine genius at the age of 11 already showcases a mastery of orchestral writing and vocal composition. It has been recorded and will be released on November 15, 2024, under the CVS Label.

Mozart makes his comeback at Versailles !

The little Mozart was introduced to the Grand Couvert of King Louis XV at the Court of Versailles when he was only 7 years old. To commemorate this event, the Royal Opera of Versailles will program four operas of the divine composer in December and January. From December 27, 2022 to January 1, 2023, Hervé Niquet conducts Die Zauberflöte staged by Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek. Marc Minkowski and Ivan Alexandre present an eventful Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy with the Musiciens du Louvre, from January 15 to 22, 2023, with Le nozze di Figaro (on January 15 and 20), Don Giovanni (on January 17 and 21), and Così fan tutte (on January 18 and 22). Four major productions not to be missed.

The CMBV exhumes the voice of Louis XV :

In partnership with France Musique and the Comédie-Française, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles excels once again by offering a new series of podcasts devoted to Louis XV and, of course, his music. On the website www.expodcast.cmbv.fr, five episodes (in French) written by Suzanne Gervais and three for juniors are available online, featuring the voices of actors from the Comédie-Française troupe such as Michel Vuillermoz, the narrator. A perfect and fun way of putting history into perspective to prepare for the next concerts and operas to be performed in situ at the Royal Opera of Versailles!

Royal Christmas at the Château de Versailles

The end of year celebrations will be particularly royal at the Château de Versailles with shows in all the spaces of the historic site. While the Galerie des glaces will host a dramatised tour “The King’s Journey”, the Royal Chapel will host a series of sacred music concerts from 11 to 18 December 2022. At the Opéra Royal, dance alternates with opera with Angelin Preljocaj‘s latest creation from 14 to 18 December 2022 and Mozart‘s perfect Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) from 27 December 2022 to 1 January 2023.

Versailles danced in Venice

From 26 to 30 January 2022, the Queen dances at the famous Teatro La Fenice in Venice, which welcomes her in the gold and velvet of its splendid opera hall. Great Rameau for Great Performances :

Rameau and Marc Minkowski have enjoyed a perfect idyll for many years, with numerous productions on stage and on disc. The conductor at the head of the Musiciens du Louvre had even celebrated the talents of the Baroque composer by imagining an imaginary symphony to his glory. He is repeating a New Symphony with Voice (Thomas Dolié’s) which will be performed notably in Toulouse, at the Halle aux grains on 7 February 2022 (as part of the Grands Interprètes series), in Baden Baden or at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, on 23 June.

Opera Royal of Versailles : 19-20 season partly saved and postponed

All is not lost in Versailles ! Even if some brilliant performances have been canceled, the end of the 2019-2020 season is partly saved.

Some recitals are postponed such as Jakub Józef Orlinski’s (scheduled on April 20, 2020 and postponed to December 14, 2020), Cecilia Bartoli’s (from March 30, 2020 to October 10, 2020) or Gaëlle Arquez appearance as Circé by, in the opera of Desmarest initially scheduled on March 28, 2020 and postponed to June 26, 2021.

Other performances will take place such as the ballet Marie-Antoinette or Le Bourgeois gentilhomme by Molière and Lully.
