Bob Wilson’s three Turandots

From 6 to 29 November 2023, the Opéra Bastille once again welcomes the aesthetic universe of Bob Wilson with his production of Puccini’s Turandot. For the occasion, two sopranos were to alternate on stage. While Tamara Wilson will make her Paris Opéra debut before playing Beatrice di Tenda in Bellini’s opera on the same stage in February 2024, the great Sondra Radvanovsky (the headliner at the Callas Gala on 2 December) has withdrawn and will be replaced by Iréne Theorin and Anna Pirozzi. The third soprano continues her love affair with France, as Pirozzi comes for two performances (on 22 and 26 November), before taking on the role of Adriana Lecouvreur (alternating with Anna Netrebko) from 28 January to 7 February 2024. Their partners are Ermonela Jaho and Adriana Gonzalez as Liù and Brian Jagde and Gregory Kunde as Calaf.

The final before the final!

In anticipation of the grand final to be held on Friday 23 February 2024 at the Opéra national de Paris, the Voix des Outre-Mer competition is awaiting its audience for the very first Ile-de-France final on 3 July 2023. The young artists of tomorrow can be discovered at the Ile-de-France Region’s premises in Saint-Ouen.

Ludovic Tézier, Parisian Hamlet

Even if he does not reserve his role debut for the Opéra national de Paris, Ludovic Tézier will be Hamlet, in Ambroise Thomas’ eponymous opera, at the Opéra Bastille from 11 March to 9 April 2023 in a new production by Krzysztof Warlikoswki, directed by Pierre Dumoussaud. Since its creation in 1868, the masterpiece, in which many French artists such as Sabine Devieilhe and Stéphane Degout recently at the Opéra Comique, had not been performed at the Paris Opera since 1938. Alongside Ludovic Tézier, two Ophelia will alternate with Lisette Oropesa from 11 to 30 March and Brenda Rae from 2 to 9 April.

Rudolf Nureyev is immortal !

A sad anniversary on 6 January 2023, as it is exactly 30 years since the great choreographer Rudolf Nureyev died at the age of 54. His choreographies are still celebrated all over the world and are still relevant today. This season, his Don Quixote will be performed in Vienna, Swan Lake at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and, at his home in the Paris Opera, an excerpt from Raymonda at the Ecole de danse Show.

Anna Pirozzi da Parigi

While Parisian music lovers were eagerly awaiting her stage debut, Anna Pirozzi fulfilled expectations in La forza del destino at the Opéra national de Paris by replacing Miss Netrebko at short notice. And now, from 21 January to 17 February 2023, audiences at the Opéra Bastille will be able to see her in Leonora in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, her favourite role. Under the musical direction of Carlo Rizzi, her partners are Yusif Eyvazov (also known as Mr Netrebko) as Manrico and the excellent Etienne Dupuis and Judit Kutasi (Il Conte di Luna and Azucena).

Thunder at the Opéra National de Paris

After several months of discussions between the danseur étoile François Alu and the Opera National de Paris about his professional aspirations and his career as an artist, the departure of the danseur étoile has been announced. In full agreement with the Opera National de Paris management, François Alu will soon be leaving the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Paris.

François Alu says: “I have decided to regain my full professional freedom so that I can fully realise my artistic aspirations. We have therefore agreed with the Opéra national de Paris to begin the formalities together, while at the same time exploring future collaborations that we could carry out together.”

Two Annas for La Forza

The big event of the Paris season arrives at the Opéra Bastille. From 12 to 30 December 2022, the Opéra national de Paris will revive Jean-Claude Auvray’s elegant production of Verdi‘s La forza del destino to serve as the backdrop for a luxurious cast. Two Annas share the role of Donna Leonora, Anna Netrebko, who needs no introduction, and Anna Pirozzi, who is making her debut at the Opéra national de Paris. Their partners are Ludovic Tézier, the great! and Russell Thomas, who is much talked about and who is also making his debut at the Opéra national de Paris, as is the conductor, Jader Bignamini.

After ten triumphant performances of Rudolf Nureyev’s La Bayadère, Aurélie Dupont and Alexander Neef took to the stage of the Opéra Bastille on Saturday 23 April 2022 to honour François Alu, Danseur étoile. Alexander Neef named new director of the Paris National Opera

Habemus director !

The white smoke finally came out from the Palais de l’Elysées after several months of expectations. The name of the new director of the Paris National Opera is now known. Alexander Neef, the current general manager of the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto will succeed Stéphane Lissner from 2021-2022 season. M&O wishes him « bienvenue à Paris! »
