The 2025–2026 Music & Opera Guide Around the World is now available!

After Valentine’s Day, Romeo and Juliet Still in the Spotlight!

Valentine’s Day may be over, but the lovers of Verona are still being celebrated in Belgium and in London.

The stars of the Royal Ballet perform on the legendary stage of Covent Garden until 26 May 2025, in Kenneth MacMillan‘s splendid and iconic choreography.

Starting on March 15, 2025, at the Opera of Ghent, and from April 3 at the Opera of Antwerp, Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau presents Romeo + Juliet, a new production inspired by Shakespeare’s classic tale and Sergei Prokofiev’s music, conducted by Gavin Sutherland. One of the most renowned and sought-after artists of the moment, Morau will make his debut with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, working with the company’s dancers in an innovative vision where he sees “much less love and much more of the violence expressed by Shakespeare and Prokofiev.”

Nadine Sierra, a dramatic wedding!

From 19 April to 14 May 2024, the marvellous soprano Nadine Sierra finds herself in the midst of drama when she returns to the iconic role of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in Katie Mitchell‘s heart-rending and profound staging at London’s Royal Opera House – Covent Garden.

Her partner is the superb Xavier Anduaga and Ioan Hotea alternates in the role of the unhappy lover Edgardo. Both tenors are Operalia Competition Laureates (Anduaga in 2019 and Hotea in 2015).

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker is a must-see for the festive season. In 2023-2024, the family show combining excellence and entertainment is on the bill of major companies such as the Opéra national de Paris and the Royal Opera House in London.

A quick look at ticket sales reveals that December is still the most opportune time of the year. While Paris is selling out fast, London is already sold out for all December 2023 performances, while all January 2024 performances are still available…

Innocence found in London

The Aix premiere made a lot of noise, since Innocence, Kaija Saariaho‘s new opera has been heard in Amsterdam and Helsinki. Before San Francisco where it is scheduled for June 2024, Simon Stone’s production will be performed at Covent Garden at the Royal Opera House in London from April 17 to May 4, 2023 under the direction of Susanna Mälkki with Sandrine Piau and Christopher Purves.

The Barber of Bow Street

In London, Sweeney Todd is a well-known barber on Fleet Street and yet it is the Barbiere di Siviglia that is most often visited. In Bow Street, at the Royal Opera House, from 2 February to 6 March 2023, Andrzej Filończyk performs as Rossini’s hero accomplice Count Almaviva, the great Rossinian tenor Lawrence Brownlee, who is about to woo Aigul Akhmetshina‘s charming Rosina under the exasperated eye of the dottore Bartolo (Fabio Capitanucci) and the taunting eye of Don Basilio, the great Bryn Terfel. A Barber of Seville in London highly recommended!
