The Philharmonie doubles up on International Women’s Rights Day

On Saturday 9 March 2024, the day after International Women’s Rights Day, the Philharmonie de Paris is hosting a forum entitled “Matrimoine: (pour) faire genre?” Throughout the day, round tables, discussions and interviews will be held with special guests such as historian Michelle Perrot, cellist Héloïse Luzzati, founder and director of the Elles Women Composers association, Claire Bodin, director of the Présence Compositrices resource and promotion centre, and many other speakers who will be discussing, among other things, the place of women composers in French programming or the “silences of History”. Although many female composers are being rediscovered, the place of women in classical music is still a hot topic. Of the thirty opera houses in France, only four are headed by women. On the symphony side, just over 10% of orchestras are conducted by women. Although there have never been so many, we are still a long way from parity
